If i can do it, so can you.

Very basic structure

The glider is just a collection of tubes, connection plates and bolts.

If you bought the predrilled kit, you can build it like a IKEA chair. Just put part A onto part B and bolt it together.

Very basic tools

You don't need fancy, expensive machinery to build the BirdGlider.

If you bought the predrilled kit, you mostly need:

  • a set of sockets
  • a handheld drilling machine
  • a rivet gun
  • and ...that is about it.

To drill all the needed holes when buying the basic kit, you need also:

  • a table drill on a special table to get all holes entered on the tube (very easy to make)
  • a miter saw
  • a laser level light
  • steel square
  • deburring tools
  • measuring tools
  • clamps
  • a very level working table (here you need that laser)

Manuals

Each section has his own manual.

  • Fuselage
  • Wings
  • Horizontal tail and struts
  • Control system

These manuals have lots of 3Ds and exploded views to help you install the right parts on the right place.

During the build-up of the prototype i saw how easy it is to install a bolt in the wrong direction. At first you think "Yes, this way is easy", but later you have to redo that bolt to be able to install other stuff. So ...follow the manual very strict.

Tutorials

In this world of Youtube and Vimeo we easily find videos that guide us to construct stuff we never done before. Well ...i know myself. I will make many videos about how it should be done. So if you ever doubt the manual. You might see the more complex details in the videos in the future.

About BirdGlider

“Going back in time …to the basics” has been my way of thinking for a long time. “Going back in time” might sounds a bit weird. But in the pioneer years of hanggliding, the sport was still for those with some guts, now it has evolved into a sport for those with many bucks. I wanted to go back to those old years. Lets go back to when aviation was still in reach of many. Aviation for the man of the street. I keep that goal high. I want to see YOU in the air.
